A Message from Dr. Gardner, Senior Pastor
Old Mission Church is all about loving God and loving people. All people. Progressive and Traditional people. Straight and LGBTQI people. We may not agree on all things, but we agree on that. So we will keep doing that, welcoming, baptizing, and serving with all who follow Jesus. That’s the bottom line. The actions of the recent United Methodist Church called General Conference to continue not to allow same-sex marriage and ordination of self-avowed gay or lesbian persons as pastors does not change that. At Old Mission we will keep loving and welcoming and serving with all people.
Current and Upcoming Sermons
"Beauty for Ashes" Lenten Series begins March 10.
Our worship series leading up to Easter begins on Ash Wednesday, and focuses on the promise from Isaiah 61:3 that God brings ”beauty for ashes, gladness for tears and a spirit of praise instead of a downcast spirit.” Week after week, we will see how Jesus brought this promise to fulfillment from the very beginning of his ministry to ordinary people like us, and we will claim his healing power for today. Join us for “Beauty for Ashes” starting March 6 on Ash Wednesday and every Sunday of Lent.
April 19, 2019 (Good Friday) The Passion Narrative “Tenebrae (A Service of Darkness)” Youth Leading Worship 7:00 pm Service
“Beyond Easter: Rethinking Impossible” Series starts April 21.
Easter means so many things to people: the transition into Spring, new clothes, and getting everyone together for Easter brunch or Easter worship. But what if the Easter season were about more that? What if, like for Jesus’ followers on the first Easter, it required us to rethink what we think we know about life and death and what we believe? Join us for seven messages, starting on Easter Sunday, all from Luke 24 that ask us to “rethink impossible” and our fundamental beliefs about life and death, religion and science, and the commitments of our lives. Join us for “Beyond Easter” starting on Easter Sunday.
