Some of us were visiting about plans for the future. Those plans included Vacation Bible School—which , by the way, is a five or six year success story or, in church terms, a miracle—and its theme for 2008, “Rock Star.”
When the conversation with non-VBS planners reached a certain point, I used the word “Ebenezer.” That created confusion. What does A Christmas Carol (by Dickens) have to do with “Rock Star”? They tried to force an image of Scrooge into a “Rock Star” VBS and concluded it couldn’t be done. I agreed. So, they asked, why would “Rock Star” and A Christmas Carol make for a middle-of-June Bible School?
Try I Samuel 7:12.
We can begin thinking of memorial markers, symbols of times that God helps us. Put a stone in the yard, in a room, along a fence. Place a stone so that every time it is seen, we remember the day God helped us.
